If you hunt and fish within or adjacent to Wrangell St.-Elias National Park and Preserve, please join me in Tok for the first NPS meeting pertaining to subsistence food security resilience on July 16th from 6pm- 8pm.
Many Alaskans have a long history fishing as well as hunting moose and caribou within the WRST; many pre-park.
Much has changed. This is an opportunity to hear from NPS officials on what subsistence food security means to them, as well as an opportunity to voice what it means to you.

Community Meetings for New Funding Opportunity to Address Subsistence Food Security Resilience
COPPER CENTER, AK – Park staff will host several community meetings to introduce a funding opportunity to address subsistence food security resilience. Proposed projects should benefit the public at large, relate in some manner to subsistence resources harvested from Federal public lands and/or associated waters, and be designed specifically to enhance food security resilience for subsistence-dependent rural communities where food security concerns are attributable in part to climate-related environmental changes.
Community members are invited to attend meetings at the following locations to discuss project ideas and learn how to apply:
• Tok, Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, July 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Slana, Slana Community Hall (4-Mile Road), July 17 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Kenny Lake, Kenny Lake Community Hall, July 30 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Copper Center, Wrangell-St. Elias Visitor Center at Mile 106.8 Richardson Highway, August 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• McCarthy, Tony Zak’s, August 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
