Unfortunately, no single factor has emerged as a cause for lower Chinook returns on the Copper River, the Kenai, the Kuskokwim or the Yukon. Excessive harvest through commercial trawling, inshore commercial fishing, degraded spawning habitat, rising sea temperatures, and increasing predation by protected sea mammals are all factors that could be playing a role. While every fishery has different upriver conditions, each share common ground when it comes to the ocean portion of the salmon life-cycle.

Thank you to the Native Village of Chitina (NVC), Ahtna Inc. and the State of Alaska for finding common ground this spring to protect the culturally significant grave sites discovered in the Chitina area.

The Alaska Legislature allocated $7 million to help Alaskans build new homes. With inflation being through the roof, we are all tightening our belts. Building a home is an expensive endeavor, but the State is doing what it can to help ease the cost.

Alaskans took a brave step forward in 2022, implementing the Alaska Reads Act. The results are in, it was not just another run of the mill education initiative. It’s working!
